Gully Cleaning & Jetting Training
FOR SAFE CLEANING and JETTING OF GULLY POTS and CONNECTIONS. TO INCLUDE LOADING, DISCHARGE & SAFE TRANSPORTATION OF LIQUIDS.
Operators attending these courses using tankers with drain & sewer water jetting equipment will obtain Water Jetting Association City & Guilds Certification for those who meet the requirements.COURSE ENTRY LEVEL:
This is a practical training course specifically designed for experienced and new Gully Cleaning and Jetting Operatives. The course is aimed at crews who are required to safely operate vacuum tankers with or without water jetting equipment for highway cleaning.AIMS:
To deliver practical training to tanker drivers and crew in the safe loading, discharge andsafe operation of jetting & vacuum tankers. To make drivers aware of their duties on site
and on the highway.
OBJECTIVES:
Following completion of this course Tanker Drivers and crew will have an acceptableknowledge of their safety responsibilities in relation to the operation of a range of tankers
with and without water jetting equipment.
COURSE DESIGN:
The course is designed in accordance to National Standards and in compliance withThe Health and Safety Executive Approved Codes of Practice and Manufactures Guidelines.
Each course will pay regard to individual Authorities specific Safe System of Work to
achieve best practice.
COURSE DURATION: Two day.
RATIO: Six to eight candidates to one instructor.

- Introduction to the course
- Risk Assessments.
- Driver responsibilities and duties.
- Daily checks to be carried out.
- Personal Protective Equipment.
- Hazards to avoid during loading.
- Hazards to avoid during discharge.
- Safe tipping of the tank procedures.
- Procedure for opening & securing
- door clamps.
- Procedure for loading under vacuum.
- Procedure for gravity & pressure tanker discharge.
- Hazards of driving with part loads.
- Action to be taken in the event of a spillage.
- Inspection of Valves/Bauer couplings.
- Check tank suitability before loading.
- Recognising chemicals that can damage the tank and hoses.
- Working outside normal hours.
- Inspection of HP jetting hoses.
- Use of correct drain & sewer jets.
- Parking and securing the tanker.
- Making good use of defect sheets.
- Good house keeping.
